Team India on Thursday thrashed England in the Third day-night Test at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad by 10 wickets, a match that was done and dusted well inside two days. Axar Patel bagged five, Ravichandran Ashwin picked up his 400th Test wicket as England came falling down in the second innings scoring a mere 81 after posting 112 in their first innings. With only a target of 49 to achieve, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill ensured the play wasn’t pushed to the third day.
However, there was a moment in the match, on the drama-filled second day itself, when England made an exceptional comeback reducing India from 99/3 to 145 all-out, all thanks to skipper Joe Root’s maiden five-for in Test cricket.
While Root was deservedly lauded for his lethal spell, former English captain Michael Vaughan was convinced his country had become the new favourites in the match.
In a tweet, Vaughan wrote: “England now favourites … incredible session !!”

One may argue that his tweet was in sync with the proceedings on the field, England’s collapse in the second innings saw the match completely turn into India’s favour.
After the win, Indian cricket fans flocked to Vaughan’s Twitter page and reminded the former crickter of his “too soon” post.
This tweet has aged incredibly well Jokes apart, kind of tells you how much @MichaelVaughan knows about the game of cricket. One can scarce believe he captained his country. https://t.co/5X8miKHTsp

England now favourites … incredible session2 hours later, this is a awful pitch for Test cricket
4 hours later – India will struggle to chase this tricky 83 runs target
6 hours later – Such a shame, this pitch is awful. @MichaelVaughan #ENGvIND https://t.co/wVX9J1I9JJ

Predictions of @MichaelVaughan are now as bad as England's batting on spin pitches #IndiavsEngland #INDvsENG_2021 https://t.co/j4E14x06MM— Suvishal Reddy (@tsuvishal) February 25, 2021
From favourites to now the pitch is to blame for england’s loss.Accept that your batsmen were not good enough. https://t.co/ICHMJm6TSJ— Aby George (@AbyGeor00523712) February 25, 2021

Adding this to the list of tweets that age VERY poorly. The English lost…now they want to blame the pitch despite their team playing the same pitch and conditions as India. It's all about adapting. Pitch conditions across the world shouldn't be homogeneous. ADAPT. #INDvENG https://t.co/aMODvSZrgc— PhilingThisKombo (@philiekombo) February 25, 2021
In subsequent tweets, Vaughan expressed his displeasure and called the pitch “awful” for Test cricket.
Entertaining .. YES .. but this is a awful pitch for Test cricket .. !!!! Complete lottery on day 2 !! #INDvENG— Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) February 25, 2021
If we are going to see these pitches … I have an answer to how it could work … Give the Teams 3 innings !!! #INDvENG— Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) February 25, 2021
