Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the fourth generation of A-Class hatchback which now comes with a major update in terms of the features on board as well as the design. It’s become a bit longer now with an increase in wheelbase to the tune of 1.2 inches and it's 14 mm wider as well – resulting in a larger cabin space.
In terms of design, the A-Class has become edgier than before thanks to the new ‘face’ of the car. It is a low-nosed design with sharp headlamps and the same goes for the rear end of the car as well. There are more evident creases and curves and overall, the car looks sportier than before.
There are new engine options as well in the 2019 A-Class. There’s a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that churns out 161 horsepower and250 Nm of torque and comes with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission or a 6-speed manual. Then, there’s a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit that churns out 221 hp and 350 Nm of torque, which comes with a 7-speed DCT only. Wrapping things up, there’s a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel which makes 114 hp and 260 Nm of torque, this unit comes mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. All the power generated by these engines are sent to the front wheels as default but, if you want, there’s an optional extra of a four-wheel drive system as well. And if that’s not enough, the German automaker has promised more engine options in the future.
Inside the car, there’s Mercedes’ all-new infotainment system taking the limelight and it’s called ‘MBUX’. The idea is to create a seamless infotainment screen with this one and it is done with three combination options – two 7-inch displays, one 7-inch and one 10.25-inch display and two 10.25 inch displays.
Here’s a couple of videos that will give you a good idea of what the car is all about.
