A new feature added to the latest revision of Google Maps can work out where drivers are going without being told.
The Driving Mode feature means that users can head out on their errands, and the Google Maps app will soon provide the relevant traffic and route-finding info automatically.
That's because Driving Mode refers back to location history and web search data to make a best guess as to where drivers are going.
Something similar had already been baked into the personal assistant app, Google Now.
Integrated into Maps v9.19 on Android, and expected on iOS soon, activating the feature depends on the relevant Driving Notifications option appearing in the app's Navigation Settings menu -- a toggle that Android Police reported was not immediately available, but surfaced after some random menu investigation and several app restarts.
However, on investigating the app's code, Android Police then made a bonus discovery: an unresolved reference to a to-do list, indicating that future Maps revisions could well support either native to-do lists made from within Maps, or those imported from elsewhere in Google's suite of apps.
