Honda Motorcycles unveils 7 new models
The biggest surprise was the launch of the Honda CBR150R.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd (HMSI) launched a new 110cc commuter motorcycle called the Dream Yuga and a new Dio with an 110cc engine at the 2012 Auto Expo. But the biggest surprise was the launch of the Honda CBR150R.

The CBR150R has light and compact DOHC engine which produces a peak power of 18PS at 10,500rpm and peak torque of 12.6Nm at 7500rpm. The bike has a twin tubular frame which increases stability. The engine is liquid cooled and has fuel injection. The bike will have front and rear disc brakes, mono-suspension and wide front and rear tubeless tyres. It also has an advance O2 sensor and air inductor to reduce the emissions.

The CBR150R will be available in two variants – Standard and Deluxe. The CBR150R shares most body panels with the bigger CBR 250R. The CBR 150R is expected to be priced below Rs 1.2 lakh.

Honda also launched a new tri-colour CBR 250R which will be available for sale in dealerships from February 2012.

The key focus for Honda was however the unveiling of their first mass motorcycle in India, the Dream Yuga, which will launch in May 2012. The Dream Yuga is powered by an 110cc engine making 9PS. Honda claims that it will return 72kmpl. Honda are providing the option of tubeless/tuff up tube.

This bike will be available in three variants, kick/drum/spoke, kick/drum/alloy and self/drum/alloy. The bike looks quite similar to Honda’s 125cc commuter, the Shine and will come in five colour options.

The new Dio replaces its 102cc engine with the 110cc from the Activa. It now develops 9PS of power and along with certain technologies like reduced cooling fan diameter, valve spring load and roller rocker arm, Honda claims that it is 15 per cent more fuel efficient. The 2012 Honda Dio also gets tubeless tyres and combi-brakes.

Honda claims that they have increased the leg space at the front as well. The refreshed Dio will be available for sale from end of January 2012.

Honda’s CB Shine has also been given a refresh with new graphics and a 3D emblem. The 2012 Shine also gets handle bar end weights, tuff up tube tyres and an option of a 240mm disc brake in the front.

Honda also showcased their two superbikes, the VT 1300CX and 2012 CBR1000RR Fireblade. The VT1300CX is a chopper powered by a 1312cc V-twin engine while the Fireblade is a 20th anniversary edition. It gets a ‘balance free rear cushion’, revised fuel injection settings, new wheels and an advanced LCD instrument panel.

The 2012 CBR1000RR Fireblade will be available for sale at Honda owned exclusive Wing World showrooms in Delhi and Mumbai from this month itself.
