Uttar Pradesh: Government Completely Waives-off Road Tax on Hybrids and Electric Cars
With the complete focus on the automobile industry, the government aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2070. 

In a move to promote green mobility in India, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken significant steps to support eco-friendly vehicles. It has announced the complete wave off the road tax for strong hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric cars with immediate effect.

The step has been taken after witnessing the strong impact on the environment by the pure ICE models. The initiative aims to encourage the public to get inclined towards eco-friendly vehicles over those that are polluting the air more.

With the complete focus on the automobile industry, the government plans to achieve net zero emissions by 2070.

While confirming the news, Nand Gopal Gupta, Minister of Industrial Development, Export Promotion, and NRI & Investment Promotion, told News18 that the strategy has been implemented to boost cleaner transportation and reduce pollution in the country.

Gupta said, “By promoting eco-friendly vehicles, we aim to lower dependence on fossil fuels, enhance air quality, and boost the local economy by attracting more investment in EV infrastructure and production”.

In addition, he said the initiative is likely to push EV sales, boost job opportunities, and make Uttar Pradesh a key player in the green mobility industry”.

Top Manufacturers to Get Benefits

The recent development will surely benefit the top manufacturers in India. There are few models, which will get the direct tax relaxation benefit from policy. The list includes the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia EV6, and Toyota Innova Hycross, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, BMW XM, Volvo XC60 and the list goes on.

Zero Road Tax Impact

The newly implemented tax waiver policy might attract new customers towards the hybrid and electric segment as well, all thanks to reduced ownership costs and zero road taxation rule.
