What To Expect From EV Charging Stations In India?
India's electric vehicle revolution sparks demand for more charging stations. With 9388 stations nationwide, easy navigation & app payments facilitate adoption.

The transportation landscape in India has changed drastically since the introduction of electric vehicles.

Besides reducing carbon footprints, this type of battery-operated car has also made driving more pocket-friendly by cutting off the fuel cost. While the popularity of EVs continues to reach new heights with every passing day, customers have already started feeling the need for charging stations in many public places.

As per the current scenario, the majority of EV owners have their own charging system at their homes. But if the battery runs out at a location where there is no such system nearby, people may face much trouble. To resolve the issue, EV charging stations are expected to be installed in every part of India soon.

Here are what benefits customers can expect from these facilities:

  • Currently, India has 9388 EV charging stations, which are spread across 807 cities. These locations can be easily found on the navigation system available on EVs. If the car has no such feature, people can also look for charging spots in Google Maps. as reported by Car Dekho.
  • Unlike traditional fuel (petrol, diesel or CNG) stations, the EV charging points have no human support. It means customers will need to know the basic techniques of making the charging system work. There are app-based payment options where they can pay for the charge.
  • People must be aware of the battery capacity of their EVs as all stations may not have the facility of both AC and DC chargers. Cars which support fast charging will need the DC charger, while the smaller batteries will need AC chargers, which have a capacity of 25-40kWh. If an EV has a limit of 7.2kW of maximum charging, it can be revived by AC chargers, as reported by Carwale.
  • Customers must also know which charging plug is compatible with their EVs. In India, Type 2 AC charging plugs are mostly used for passenger vehicles. Meanwhile, EVs that allow DC fast charging are equipped with slightly more sophisticated CCS Type 2 plugs.
  • Certain commercial EVs in the country come with CHAdeMO charging connectors, which may be found at specific EV charging locations. The Tokyo Electric Power Company introduced these entirely new ports, collaborating with five significant Japanese automakers.
