If we had to choose one of the most interesting two-wheeler concepts at the 2018 Auto Expo, it has to go to the Yamaha Motoroid concept. It is Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled and thanks to image recognition technology it can recognise its owner by their face through the dual cameras mounted at the front. Post which, the motorcycle is capable of reacting to a total of four gestures – put the side stand up by itself, move towards the owner, move back (away) from the owner and stop at the show of the owner’s palm.
That’s not it, the Yamaha Motoroid has another trick up its sleeve. On top of being autonomous, it is a self-balancing machine. What Yamaha has done is that they have divided the Motoroid Concept into two halves – the main frame and the sub-frame. For the sake of visual representation, think of the upper half of the motorcycle as the main frame and the lower half as the sub-frame – which also houses the Lithium-ion batteries. When the main frame leans towards the left or right, the sub-frame moves the battery pack towards the other side. This cancels out the forces and as a result, the motorcycle stays upright.
There’s a lot more to this as well. Watch our video below to find out.
