Bangalore Metro’s Purple Line is set to be fully operational soon, ushering in a new era of convenience for commuters in the city. With the opening of the Krishnarajapuram-Baiyappanahalli and Kengeri-Challaghatta stretches soon, the entire Purple Line will span an impressive 42.85 km, connecting Challaghatta to Whitefield in East Bengaluru.
The official inauguration date is yet to be disclosed, but sources indicate that the Purple Line’s full operational status is imminent following the receipt of security clearance for the Kengeri-Challaghatta section. The Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) granted clearance for commercial operations on the Kengeri-Challaghatta line on October 3, 2023.
Bangalore Metro: Purple Line Routes
Once inaugurated, commuters can look forward to a 10-minute frequency during peak hours between Challagatta and Whitefield (Kadugodi), with a five-minute headway between Pattandur Agrahara and Mysuru Road stations. Furthermore, there are plans to introduce short-loop services during peak hours, connecting the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda interchange Metro Station, Majestic, and MG Road/Byappanahalli.
Bangalore Metro: Purple Line Price Details
The Metro journey from Challaghatta to Whitefield is estimated to take approximately 76 minutes, offering commuters an affordable end-to-end fare of Rs 60. This development is expected to drive a significant increase in daily ridership, with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) projecting a boost from the existing 6.2 lakh passengers to 7 lakh passengers once the Whitefield-Challaghatta corridor is fully operational.

The progress comes on the heels of the inauguration of the Whitefield-KR Puram Metro section, covering a distance of 13.7 km, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 25, 2023. The completion of this section addressed a crucial missing link, eliminating the need for passengers to rely on feeder buses to complete their journeys. With these pending stretches now in operation, Bengaluru’s Metro system solidifies its position as the second-largest Metro network in India, following the Delhi Metro’s extensive 350.2-km network.
