Kannada cinema has always produced quality work. The industry’s actresses are known, these days, for their power-packed roles and movies that deal with themes like women’s issues and various social causes. Today, let’s take a look at some of the Kannada actresses who have done some amazing works in the industry in the recent past, and they have managed to break the conventions in one way or another.

1. Chaitra Achar: Chaithra J Achar, who played the role of Jenny in Basil Alchalakkal’s action drama film Toby, gave a new touch to her character in the film. Her role was a very important part of the movie. Jenny was Toby’s (Raj B Shetty) adopted daughter. She was an orphan who was raised by mute man. Chaithra delivered a power-packed performance that was totally different from what she normally plays. The film was produced by Ravi Rai Kalasa and also featured Raj B Shetty, Samyukta Hornad, and Raj Deepak Shetty in the lead roles. The music for the film was composed by Midhun Mukundan, while the cinematography and editing were done by Praveen Shriyan and Nithin Shetty. The movie was based on the Kumta region of Uttara Kannada district in coastal Karnataka.

2. Rukmini Vasanth: Rukmini Vasanth’s character Priya in Sapta Saagaradaache Ello, Side A, directed by Hemanth M Rao, created a major impact among the viewers. The romantic drama film was directed by Hemanth M Rao and produced by Rakshit Shetty, who also played the lead role in the film. In the movie, Priya (Rukmini Vasanth) plays the role of an aspiring singer who is mesmerised by the sea and wishes for a simple life with Manu. Having moved to Bengaluru from her coastal hometown, she sees the sea in Manu (Rakshit Shetty) and wouldn’t mind spending her life singing for him. But their lives take many unusual turns, which Priya handles single-handedly. Rukmini depicted a strong female character in the film. The movie was a huge hit. Recently, the sequel to the film, titled Sapta Saagaradaache Ello: Side B, was released on November 17 and also managed to receive immense appreciation from the viewers.

3. Archana Jois: Actress Archana Jois also made a special place for herself in the Kannada industry after appearing in the action thriller film KGF. Jois played the role of Shanthamma, Rocky’s mother in the KGF film series and received immense appreciation from the viewers. According to reports, the actress was only 27 years old when she played the character. Although her screen time was less than that of other actors in the movies, her character had special importance. The emotional bond between mother and son is an important theme throughout both films, and all of Rocky Bhai’s (Yash) actions—from capturing the KGF mines to wanting to be the richest and most powerful man in the world—stem from his promise to his mother in his childhood that he would win the world for her. Archana also won the 8th SIIMA Award for Best Supporting Actress (Kannada) for her character. The movie was written and directed by Prashanth Neel and backed by Vijay Kiragandur under the banner of Hombale Films.
