We hear stories about snakes being rescued by catchers almost every day. Recently, a snake-catcher has been gaining attention for rescuing thousands of snakes till now. According to reports, his name is Joy Mascarenes. He is especially known for deftly catching the squirming rattlesnake, among other breeds. Joy Mascarenes hails from Belthangady, a small town in Karnataka; but very few people from that locality know him by his real name. He is popularly known by the name Snake Joy. According to reports, Snake Joy has rescued more than 7,000 snakes since 2005.
In 2005, Snake Joy caught a python. That’s when he started the work of reptile protection. Reports suggest he had protected only pythons until 2006. In the same year, when a cobra came to his house, he took courage and saved the cobra by its head. In this way, his reptile rescue mission started. In 2007, Joy got the opportunity to save a Kalinga snake. He successfully caught the venomous snake Kalinga, which was coming down from the Western Ghats region, and then released it back into the forest.
A few days ago, a man went viral for the same reason. The man from Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh, Yadav, runs one of the state’s oldest snake rescue helplines. He is commonly known as a saviour by residents. He is an avid wildlife enthusiast, who has rescued more than 8,000 snakes in the last 23 years and, in doing so, has saved numerous human lives too.
Yadav is also a social media influencer. He has more than 85 lakh subscribers on his YouTube channel named Murliwale Hausla; he has 46 lakh followers on Facebook and 3.5 lakh on Instagram. In a media interaction, Yadav shared his experience. He said handling snakes is not child’s play, as even a slight mistake can be a threat to one’s life.
