Shiva Rajkumar’s much-anticipated film Ghost was released on the big screens on Thursday in 375 theatres and had 1,500 shows on the first day of release. It received largely mixed reviews from critics who appreciated the action sequences but also criticised some of the loose ends in the film post-intermission. According to a report published in sacnilk.com, Ghost received a good opening and made a collection of Rs 1.40 crore on day 1.
According to a report published in zoomtventertainment.com, Ghost’s screenings witnessed a steady rise in attendance as the day progressed. Morning shows recorded a commendable 28.29 per cent occupancy rate which significantly surged during the evening and night shows. It emphasises the movie’s growing popularity amongst moviegoers.
Srini has directed the movie also starring HG Dattatreya, Jayaram, Anupam Kher, Archana Jois, Prashanth Narayan and Satyaprakash. Sandesh Productions produced this movie which was released in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam.
Ghost has also dominated the headlines because of Anupam Kher’s Kannada debut. He talked about this in an interview with The New Indian Express. “I was not offered roles in Kannada, and the couple of films that came my way- a decade ago- did not materialise,” he said.
The veteran actor added that in his case, it has taken some time for things, to work out in the Kannada film industry. He, however, said that everything has a beginning and for him, Ghost produced by Sandesh Productions, marks the beginning of his entry into Sandalwood. He was asked whether blockbusters like KGF and Kantara catch the actor’s attention to take up a film from the industry. Anupam called them wonderful films but denied that their success prompted him to act in Kannada cinema. “I like to be part of films where the roles have been written with me in mind. Like what Srini did with Ghost,” he further said.
Now, the Kannada audience will be looking forward to the second part of Ghost as well. Shiva Rajkumar has confirmed this in an interview with thesouthfirst.com. He had said that Ghost would end in such a manner that it would pave the way for Ghost 2.
