In yet another incident of unruly passenger behavior on a plane, a 40-year-old man was arrested in Karnataka’s Bengaluru for allegedly misbehaving with a flight attendant on a Goa-bound AirAsia India flight. The incident reportedly occurred moments before AirAsia flight I5 1574 was scheduled to take off from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) at 4:10 a.m. on September 13.
The accused, identified as Anil Kumar, was deplaned and booked for outraging the modesty of a woman and sent to jail, according to a report by Times of India.
As per the report, Kumar, a resident of Aland in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi, who was seated in 21B, a middle seat on the aircraft, misbehaved with the flight attendant and made lewd remarks towards her.
“When a 21-year-old flight attendant was attending to boarding passengers, he started misbehaving with her, attempted to touch her inappropriately, and grabbed her hand. He also made sly remarks about her,” the TOI report quoted the investigating officer as saying.
The airline’s crew promptly intervened and escorted Kumar off the aircraft. He was then handed over to the KIA police, where he was booked on charges of outraging the modesty of a woman. Following his arrest, Kumar was remanded in judicial custody.
An Air India spokesperson said: “A passenger behaved in an inappropriate manner with our cabin crew while boarding a flight from Bengaluru to Goa. The passenger was offloaded immediately, and a complaint was filed with the Bengaluru Airport Police Station. We also initiated action in accordance with our disruptive passenger handling policy and relevant regulations concerning the safety and comfort of passengers and airline personnel. We prioritise the security and well-being of our guests and crew. We have a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive conduct on our flights.”
In a separate incident at KIA’s Terminal 2 on Monday, a 44-year-old international passenger was arrested after allegedly assaulting a Customs officer.
