Upendra Rao, aka, Upendra, is an Indian actor, filmmaker, screenwriter and politician who has predominantly worked in Kannada movies. He has also ventured into the Telugu film industry and worked in a few movies. His work is usually known for capturing the themes of Indian politics and society at large. Recently, ardent fans of the filmmaker have been waiting eagerly for the release of his upcoming movie UI.
UI will mark Upendra’s 11th directorial. Reportedly, it has been made on a budget of more than Rs 100 crore. The makers of the movie recently released a teaser which has generated a lot of buzz and grabbed the headlines for its unique concept. The teaser released is both amusing and has left many surprised.
The two-minute clip starts off with a note, “Use headphones for spatial audio and Dolby Atmos experience." The screen then turns blank screen and just a voice-over of the director is heard. He says in Kannada which when translated to English means, “Darkness everywhere. What kind of a place is this? You can hear water droplets everywhere."
In the background, one can hear the horses neighing, while a person is apparently crying and pleading for food and calling for help. The voiceover further says, “How can I escape from this darkness? If they hear the sound, they will kill you. Think calmly." The video ends with a woman whispering, “This is not AI world. This is UI world."
Fans were extremely delighted and praised the director and the teaser. A user commented, “Only 90’s and 2000’s kids can understand the feeling of seeing Uppi Sir back." Another wrote, “No director in this world has the guts to show the first glimpse of his film like this." A third user read, “This is why Uppi is always one of the top directors in the world. Badly waiting for the film."
UI is an upcoming pan-Indian movie which is directed by Upendra and is set to star Sunny Leone, Murali Sharma, Nidhi Subbaiah, Indrajit Lankesh, Murali Krishna and others. UI is produced under the banner of Lahari Films LLP and Venus Entertainers by G Manoharan and KP Sreekanth respectively. Reportedly, the movie is slated to hit the theatres by the end of the year.
