Mkts close in red for 2nd successive day
The 30-share benchmark Sensex closed at 12,858.48 down 25.35 points and the Nifty closed at 3708 down 7 points.

Mumbai: The markets consolidated and ended marginally lower for the second consecutive day. The Sensex closed at 12,858.48 down 25.35 points and the Nifty closed at 3708 down 7 points.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,377.30 down 22.50 points.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,285.15 down 9 points.

The BSE Metal Index was up 0.8 per cent to close at 8,983.60. SAIL, JSW Steel, NALCO, Hindalco, JindalStainless were among the gainers.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index lost 0.3 per cent to close at 5,936.35. Petronet LNG, Chennai Petro, Reliance, IOC and ONGC were among the losers.

The BSE Bankex was up 0.5 per cent at 6,267.70. ICICI Bank, SBI, Centurion BoP, Kotak Mahindra and UTI Bank moved upwards.

The BSE Health Care Index was up 1.4 per cent at 3,675.42. Glenmark, Ipca Labs, Divis Labs, Ranbaxy Labs, Dr Reddys Labs and Cadila Health closed higher.

The BSE FMCG Index climbed 0.4 per cent at 2,055.84. Dabur India, ITC, Britannia, P&G closed in green.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.2 per cent at 8,467.74 HEG, BEML, Lakshmi Machine, Greaves Cotton closed higher.Crompton Greave, Gammon India, Aban Offshore, Thermax and BHEL ended lower.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,378.82 down 1.9 per cent. Bajaj Auto, Apollo Tyres, Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland and Hero Honda were among the losers.

The BSE IT Index closed at 4,837.64 down 0.2 per cent. Wipro, TCS, Mphasis BFL, Moser Baer and Satyam ended weak.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7985.72 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 25564.93 crore.

The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4032.99 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 37583.64 crore.
