Mkts end firm amid strong buying
Markets opened flat but moved up tracking Asian peers. Asian markets were trading marginally higher.

Mumbai: The markets closed the week on a positive note with broad based buying seen in frontliners and significant buying in midcap stocks.

The Sensex was up 64.80 points or 0.55 per cent at 11918.65, and the Nifty up 16.90 points or 0.49 per cent at 3471.45.

About 1527 shares have advanced, 970 shares declined, and 71 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Small Cap Index ended up 1.33 per cent at 6031.23.

The BSE Midcap Index gained 1.11 per cent at 5041.35.

Most of the BSE sectoral indices closed in the positive terrain.

The BSE Auto Index gained 1.20 per cent at 5,207.02. Exide Industrie, Apollo Tyres, Punj Tractors, Hero Honda, MRF and Maruti Udyog were among the gainers.

The BSE Capital Goods Index surged 0.71 per cent at 8,079.73.Ingersoll Rand, KEC Infrastruct, HEG, BHEL, SKF India closed higher.

The BSE Metal Index gained 0.61 per cent at 8,626.27. Welspun Guj, Hind Zinc, Hindalco, NALCO, Jindal Saw and Tata Steel witnessed buying interest.

The BSE FMCG flared 0.98 per cent at 2,035.76. McDowell, Nirma, Colgate, HLL, ITC closed in green.

The BSE Health Care gained 0.95 per cent at 3,632.84. Pfizer, Glenmark, Orchid Chemical, Ranbaxy Labs, GlaxoSmithKline gained.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index spurted 0.45 per cent at 5,742.68. Chennai Petro, BPCL, MRPL, HPCL and IOC rose higher.

The BSE Bankex was end with marginal gained 0.03 per cent at 5,361.99. Oriental Bank, IOB, Karnataka Bank, Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank moved upwards.

The BSE IT Index lost 0.19 per cent to close at 4,272.97.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7259.64 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 23459.44 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3486.93 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 34206.01 crore.
