Mkts open strong, IT, FMCG stocks gain

New Delhi: Markets opened strong on Tuesday as Sensex surged by over 58 points on the Bombay Stock Exchange in early opening.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange, Nifty, was up by 18.75 points at 3,889.50.

The markets gained momentum on the back of buying interest seen across the sectors: All the BSE indices were trading in green except consumer durables duting early trade.

At 10:57 hours IST, the Sensex was up 112.11 points or 0.83 per cent at 13583.85, and the Nifty up 36.90 points or 0.95 per cent at 3908.05.

The BSE mid-cap was up 44 points at 5,693 while BSE small-cap was up 88 points at 6,809 towards opening.

Top gainers on the Sensex were ONGC at Rs 881 up 1.82 per cent, HDFC Bank at Rs 1,019 up 1.34 per cent and ITC at Rs 171.80 up 1.27 per cent.

Top losers on the Sensex were Reliance Comm at Rs 462.25 down 1.3 per cent, Hero Honda at Rs 740.25 down 1.25 per cent and Tata Steel at Rs 476.60 down 0.37 per cent.

Top gainers on the Nifty were Tata Power at Rs 566.90 up 2.19 per cent, Wipro at Rs 585 up 1.83 per cent and Suzlon Energy at Rs 1,283 up 1.66 per cent.

Top losers on the Nifty were Reliance Comm at Rs 463.80 down 0.98 per cent, Hero Honda at Rs 743.30 down 0.93 per cent and Grasim at Rs 2,707 down 0.55 per cent.

Most active shares on BSE remained Tech Mahindra at Rs 1,676 with 3,14,543 shares, Indiabulls at Rs 607.80 with 7,02,817 shares and Great Offshore at Rs 859.80 with 4,92,470 shaers.

Most active shares on NSE were Indiabulls at Rs 607.50 with 16,33,246 shares, Tech Mahindra at Rs 1,677 with 5,46,630 shares and Sobha Developer at Rs 988 with 5,52,482 shares.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 220.80 up 0.78 per cent from its previous close of Rs 219.10.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,273.70 up 0.18 per cent from its previous close of Rs 1,271.35.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,202 up 1.4 per cent from its previous close of Rs 2,171.50.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 172.55 up 1.71 per cent from its previous close of Rs 169.65.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 271.85 up 0.72 per cent from its previous close of Rs 269.90.
