Scorpio gets a makeover

New Delhi: The so-called rough diamond of an off-roader, Mahindra Scorpio, has just got a makeover.

Four years after this SUV hit the market with a bang, Mahindra and Mahindra has done some tinkering to its flagship product with an investment of Rs 30 crore.

This means the tall and top-heavy big boys' toy will not have a changed outlook, a whole new interior and also a brand new suspension.

The price remains the same though as on date. "We can review the price after around 30-45 days," M&M vice-chairman and Managing Director Anand Mahindra said at the launch of the new model. The model is currently available between Rs 7.69 lakh and Rs 8.8 lakh.

Scorpio has so far been a runaway success for Mahindra and Mahindra. So much so, that it has revved up the company's confidence in becoming a leading passenger vehicles manufacturer.

As many 43 improvements have been incorporated in the new avatar of Scorpio. And M&M now plans to raise the vehicle's production to 180 units a day from the current level of 132 units.

Meanwhile, the company also plans to launch the Logan by 2007, it was announced on Monday. M&M has already formed a 51:49 joint venture with Renault for this purpose.
