Sensex closes above 12000 mark
Sensex scales 12,000 for the first time after May 17 as mkts end marginally higher after choppy session.

Mumbai: Markets had a volatile session and closed marginally in the green. The Sensex closed at 12,009.59 up 37 points. The Nifty gained 66 points to close at 3455.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed flat at 5,985.63.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,035.12 up 9 points.

The BSE Health Care Index was down 0.13 per cent at 3,583.30. Wyeth, Wockhardt, Aurobindo Pharma, Glenmark and Ipca Labs closed lower.

The BSE IT Index lost 0.14 per cent at 4,330.15. Moser Baer, Infosys, Patni Computer and TCS declined.

The BSE Metal Index was down 1.1 per cent to close at 8,228.92. Welspun Guj, SAIL, Hind Zinc, Jindal Steel and Sterlite Ind ended lower.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 0.7 per cent to close at 5,715.98. Reliance Natural, Chennai Petro, Kochi Refinery and Reliance closed higher.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1.6 per cent at 8,099.38. L&T, Praj Industries, Lakshmi Machine and Siemens closed higher.

The BSE Auto Index closed flat at 5,197.77. Exide Industries, Tube Investment, Hind Motors and Bajaj Auto were among the losers.

The BSE Bankex was up 0.1 per cent at 5,642.31. Karnataka Bank, Andhra Bank, Bank of India, Vijaya Bank and Centurion BoP moved downwards.

The BSE FMCG Index rose 0.2 per cent at 2,009.30. Shaw Wallace, McDowell and HLL closed in green.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 6861.93 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 23045.57 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3445.97 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 33353.47 crore.
