The Indian skipper was sent back to the pavilion by Bangladeshi pacer Hasan Mahmud for just six runs in the first inning of the ongoing first Test in Chennai.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has once again failed to fire against Bangladesh in a Test match. The 37-year-old right-handed batter was sent back to the pavilion by Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mamud for six runs from 19 balls on the first ball of the sixth over of the ongoing first Test between the two teams at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

It was his third six-run score in four Tests played against Bangladesh so far.

Rohit played his first Test for India against Bangladesh in Fatullah on June 10, 2015. He came out to bat No. 3 in that match but was sent back to the dugout for 6 runs from nine balls by Shakib Al Hasan. The right-handed batter’s second red-ball match against Bangladesh was at Holkar Stadium in Indore from November 14-18, 2019, and in that fixture as well, Rohit could only manage to score six runs.

In his third Test against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, which was played from November 22-24, 2019, Rohit managed to cross the six-run mark, but before he could convert his innings into a big score, Ebadot Hossain got rid of him for 21 runs from 35 balls.

Rohit’s record in Tests against Bangladesh is totally different from his super show against them in ODIs and T20Is. Rohit, who became the third Indian captain to win an ICC trophy earlier this year, has scored 786 runs with an average of 56.14 in 17 ODIs played so far against Bangladesh. He scored centuries against them in the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cup matches.

In T20Is, Rohit, with the help of five half-centuries, has amassed a total of 477 runs in 13 matches.

Najmul invites India to bat 1st

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss in the ongoing first Test against India and invited the Rohit Sharma-led side to bat first at MA Chidambaram Stadium. India made a forgetful start in the match and lost three batters inside the first hour. After removing Rohit for 6 runs, Hasan Mahmud got rid of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli as well.

While Kohli scored six runs from as many balls in his first home Test of the ongoing World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle, Gill was dismissed for a seven-ball duck. Both of them were caught behind by wicketkeeper Liton Das.
