The Indian men’s cricket team will face Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, which is set to start on October 6 in Gwalior. India has won 13 out of 14 T20Is played so far against Bangladesh, and the Men in Blue would like to maintain the dominance in the upcoming series as well. For the shortest format series in front of home fans, India has picked a 15-member squad in which as many as five players are making a comeback after being ignored for the last series against Sri Lanka in July 2024, and one—Mayank Yadav—is picked for the first time in Team India.
Ahead of the start of the India-Bangladesh T20I series, here’s a look at five players who’re making a comeback in Team India.
Abhishek Sharma: Abhishek made his T20I debut for India against Zimbabwe in Harare on July 6 and scored a century in the second match played on July 7. The 24-year-old left-handed batter from Amritsar made a big name for himself in the IPL 2024 for SRH. He was ignored for the Sri Lanka series in July 2024 but is now back in the T20I team and will open the innings in the upcoming three matches against Bangladesh.
Jitesh Sharma: Jitesh, who last played a T20I match for India against Afghanistan in Indore on January 14, 2024, is picked as the second wicketkeeper-batter for the Bangladesh series. The Vidarbha cricketer, who plays for Punjab Kings in the IPL, has 100 runs to his name in nine T20Is played so far for India since making his debut against Nepal in Hangzhou on October 3, 2023.
Harshit Rana: Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Harshit Rana earned his maiden India call-up for the first two T20Is against Zimbabwe in July 2024, but he didn’t get a chance to play in any of them. The 22-year-old Delhi-based fast bowler is all set to make his T20I debut in the upcoming series, which will start on October 6.
Varun Chakravarthy: Tamil Nadu spinner Varun Chakravarthy last played a T20I match for India against Scotland in Dubai on November 5, 2021. The KKR star impressed with his performance in the IPL 2024, because of which, in the absence of senior players, he has earned a chance to play for India again after almost three years.
Nitish Kumar Reddy: 21-year-old Nitish Reddy represents Andhra in domestic cricket and plays for SRH in IPL. He made headlines for his super all-round show in the cash-rich league earlier this year for Pat Cummins & Co., because of which he was included in the Indian team for the Zimbabwe series as well. However, before he could make his debut, he was ruled out due to injury and now has another chance to become an Indian cricketer.
India’s squad for T20I series against Bangladesh: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (WK), Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy, JItesh Sharma (WK), Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav
