'Bangladesh Asked if India Can Host Women's T20 World Cup': Here's Why BCCI's Jay Shah 'Flatly Refused'
Jay Shah reasoned that he did want to host two back-to-back World Cups in India.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah revealed that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had asked to 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in October 3-20, to be hosted in India but he ‘flatly refused’.

Jay Shah reasoned that he did want to host two back-to-back World Cups in India.

“They (Bangladesh) had asked the BCCI if they can host the event, but I flatly refused. We would be still in the monsoon season and next year, we are going to host the ODI Women’s World Cup. I do not want to give the impression that I want to host consecutive World Cups,” Jay Shah was quoted as saying by TOI.

The BCB had earlier also sought security assurance from the Bangladesh army chief for conducting the tournament amid unrest in the country. The women’s T20 World Cup is slated to be held in two cities – Sylhet and Mirpur – while the warm-up round is set to begin on September 27.

Reports had suggested that the ICC could also opt to host the tournament at a different venue within a similar time zone, which leaves India, UAE and Sri Lanka as the choices.

Bangladesh Series is Very Important

When asked about the upcoming tour by the Bangladesh men’s team, Jay Shah said the two-Test and three-match T20I series is important to India.

When asked if there were any concerns regarding the tour, he said: “None as of now. A new government has just been formed over there. They will surely reach out to us. If they do not, I will surely reach out to them. For us, Bangladesh series is very important. We will try our best to host it.”

The red-ball series is set to start on September 19 in Chennai. The second Test will be played from September 27 to October 1 in Kanpur. The three T20Is between India and Bangladesh are scheduled to take place in Gwalior, Delhi, and Hyderabad on October 6, 9, and 12, respectively.
