New York is set to play hosts for the Indian team for their first three group-stage fixtures in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. Rohit Sharma who is set to lead the side for the showpiece event, was seen marvelling at the newly built Nassau County International Cricket Stadium where the Men in Blue will begin their quest for silverware.
The skipper in the full kit was seen looking around the stands and commended the efforts of those who helped put together the project.
“It looks beautiful. It’s quite an open ground. When we come here and play our first game, I just can’t wait to feel the atmosphere in the stadium,” the India captain said.

The Indian team will begin their campaign with the group-stage fixture against Ireland on June 5. Rohit emphasised the importance of understanding the conditions in the USA since they have never played in New York before.
“We’re looking to understand the conditions more importantly (before the tournament proper) as we haven’t been here before,” Rohit continued.

He added, “(We will) try and make the most of the conditions, get used to what it’s going to be like on June 5 when we play our first game. It’s just about getting into that rhythm of getting the feel of the ground, pitch and stuff like that”.
The USA is set to bear witness to their first major cricket tournament with some of the best international sides coming to the Americas to take part in the entertaining T20I cricket.

He commented, “People in New York will be very interested in coming and watching the World Cup, with the World Cup happening for the first time here”.
“I’m pretty sure all the fans across the various teams are quite excited and looking forward to this tournament. And also as players can’t wait to get started,” he concluded.
India’s first warm-up game ahead of the Ireland game is also set to take place at Nassau County with Bangladesh coming in as their opponents. It is yet to be known whether the icon Virat Kohli will be taking part in the game but the star has already left for the USA and is set to join the squad soon.
