It’s quite easy to paper-over-the-cracks when a team is winning. Any criticism of the Indian cricket team seems unwarranted at the moment given their impressive run in the ongoing T20 World Cup that has seen them making the last-four unbeaten.
The form of a couple of their players though has raised concerns given the tournament has entered its business end now. Virat Kohli has managed just 66 runs from six innings including two ducks while allrounder Ravindra Jadeja is yet to make a significant contribution with the bat or the ball.

With his left-arm spin, Jadeja has just one wicket from 10 overs and with the bat, he has 16 runs from three innings, although in his defense he hasn’t gotten as many chances since he bats in the lower middle order.
Besides his abilities with the bat and the ball, Jadeja is a gun fielder but his performance so far in the world cup does raise question over his place in the T20I setup.
Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has rejected any concerns regarding Jadeja’s form as he feels the allrounder is capable of making valuable contributions across departments.
“I am not at all concerned as he is very experienced. For whatever opportunities he’s got, he’s done well. And don’t forget, in the field itself, he saved 20 to 30 runs with his fielding ability, taking catches, and getting the run out. So don’t forget those 20-30 plus runs. Then he enters the field, with anything that he does with the bat and ball is an added value to his ability. So I don’t think we should even think about questioning (Jadeja),” Gavaskar said on Stars Sports.
Gavaskar was critical of Indian cricket fans and pointed out how only a couple of bad games are deemed enough to raise doubts over a player’s place in the team.
“The problem with India and Indian fans is, Two bad games and you go ”what to do with him, what to do with him?’,” Gavaskar said. “You know that is the worry. Nobody who asks these questions even thinks about their own professions, whether they have made two errors and whether people are questioning their place in their own profession, whichever profession they are. This is just simply a good topic for television, you don’t question Jadeja’s place in the playing XI. He’s a rock star.”
