England’s batting, particularly Harry Brook and Joe Root delivered a crushing blow to the Pakistan bowlers as the duo toppled several records during their mammoth 454-run partnership in the 1st Test at Multan.

The visitors decided to end their innings at 823/7 making it the fourth-highest innings total in the history of Test cricket. The record-holder belongs to Sri Lanka who scored a mammoth 952/6 in the 1997 match against India in Colombo.

The pair of Joe Root and Harry Brook managed to outgun the Pakistan bowling attack as they went on to set the fourth-highest partnership in Test cricket history for any wicket. The highest partnership in history belongs to the Sri Lanka pair of Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene against South Africa in 2006.

Both Pakistan and England’s batting units were in top form at Multan as they set the third-highest first-innings aggregate in Test match history. The record holder belongs to the Sri Lanka vs India match that took place in Colombo in 1997.

Many would have thought that England was certain to finish with a draw, but the English bowlers managed to showcase their class in flat conditions where they had already picked up five wickets in the second innings, leaving an innings defeat on the cards for Pakistan.
