'Few Will Suffer But No One is Above the Country': Kapil Dev Backs BCCI's Move on Indian Players Taking Part in FC Cricket - WATCH
Kapil Dev believes that the BCCI's decision to make sure that non-active international players to take part in FC cricket is a great move for the country.

India’s first World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev had a very positive reaction to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) taking the step forward to improve first-class cricket.

The BCCI announced their annual player retainership for the senior men’s team for the 2023-24 season, the release also mentioned,” The BCCI has recommended that all athletes give precedence to participating in domestic cricket during periods when they are not representing the national team.

Reacting to the big news, Kapil Dev sees the move as a big positive for Indian cricket. Speaking in an interview with the PTI, he commented, “I was going through the last few weeks of cricket in India. I am so happy that the cricket board has taken a step forward for first-class cricket”.

The former skipper feels that international players should play for their respective FC teams when not on national duty and feels elated with the move which will improve cricket further in the country. “The boys must play that, it’s good for the country. Whatever is good for the country, I feel happy about that”, he added.

Kapil also feels that the betterment of the country is bigger than any individual name.  “Yes, few players will suffer but let it be. There is no one bigger than the country. Well done,” he concluded.

The spotlight was on the pair of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer, both of whom have not made an appearance for their respective first-class sides despite not playing international cricket. However, Mumbai have announced that Shreyas Iyer will be part of their squad for their semi-final fixture against Tamil Nadu.

Kishan had taken a break citing personal reasons during their tour of South Africa. He made his return to cricket in the DY Patil T20 tournament which features many international stars like Hardik Pandya, Tilak Verma and others.

The Indian team are gearing up for the final Test against England at Dharamsala. This will be followed by the Indian Premier League (IPL) and then the marquee event of the year, the 2024 T20 World Cup hosted by the West Indies and the United States of America.
