Team India could be in a spot of bother ahead of their upcoming Test against Bangladesh in Chennai with their young opening sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal’s form being a concern.
The young Indian opening batter, who had a stellar series against England could find himself under pressure with his batting form.
In a report by The Indian Express, Jaiswal struggled against the fast bowlers during their training session on Monday. The training session was reportedly taking place at the centre square when the senior man, Virat Kohli stepped in to share his two cents. Despite this, the youngster’s woes continued as he was beaten on both edges of the bat.
Jaiswal who faced the Team India fast-bowling unit was not at his best. The report suggested that Bumrah managed to get one between bat and pad, while Akash got the one moving away from the southpaw to trouble Jaiswal too.
While it is understandable that even the best batters could struggle against the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, it can be a point of concern when he also has troubles against the likes of Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj and the net bowlers.
Following this, the Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir decided to come in and work with the young gun at the nets where he faced throw-downs. Jaiswal’s struggles with the bat could be a talking point during the upcoming series against Bangladesh and should he show signs of rustiness, pressure could be on the youngster.
The 22-year-old had pretty much sealed the opening spot for himself after scoring over 700 runs in the five-match Test series against England after which looked well ahead in the race to be Rohit Sharma’s opening partner ahead of their tour of Australia.
But should his poor form persist, Team India could be forced to experiment with their batting order which would not be ideal considering that it would unsettle the starting 11.
The Indian team will begin their Test campaign with a two-match series against Bangladesh which will be held in Chennai and Kanpur respectively. While Team India is already at the top of the World Test Championship standings, it will be imperative to continue their winning momentum as they hope to extend their 11-year-long unbeaten streak at home.
