Mustafizur Rahman introduced himself to the ‘Anbuden’ Chennai faithful in the most memorable way possible, as the Bangladesh pacer scalped a voracious four-for in his debut for the Chennai Super Kings in their opening match of IPL 2024 against rivals Royal Challengers Bangalore today.
The Bangladesh pacer registered figures of 4/29 in 4 overs on his debut and was pivotal in turning the tide around for CSK.

Chennai were seemingly bleeding runs left, right and centre, all thanks to one tall-standing RCB skipper, Faf du Plessis.
du Plessis took on the likes of CSK’s bowlers such as Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande, and Maheesha Theekshana, to punish them with boundaries galore as he raced to 35 off just 23 balls.
Rahman was introduced into the attack by CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, and immediately struck for the hosts.
Rahman dismissed the fiery du Plessis with a slower-paced tempter, enticing the skipper to swing his bat and nick the toe-end of his bat to sky the ball and make for an easy catch at deep backward point for Rachin Ravindra.
In his following over, Mustafizur maintained his discipline and line, which in turn scalped him Rajat Patidar, who carelessly tried to swipe away at a length delivery only to nick it to the ever-present MS Dhoni behind the stumps for an easy catch.
Mustafizur was taken off the spell for a while, which allowed the likes of veteran Virat Kohli and new signee Cameron Green to stop the bleeding and help bring some stability to the RCB innings.
But soon as he came back in, he struck again.
A menacing Mustafizur Rahman, who already had scalped du Plessis and Rajat Patidar, bowled one back of the length, angling away from the veteran batter.
Kohli looked to play the pull-shot on the short delivery as he shuffled to his left. But he was unable to clear the boundary.

Rahane who was the man at the mid-wicket boundary ropes, ran towards the square-leg region, took the catch and threw the ball safely to an approaching Rachin Ravindra before crashing onto the ropes, thereby saving the boundary and the wicket, which left Kohli in dismay.
Mustafizur’s blazing spell continued to spell more trouble instantly later, as Cameron Green looked to take a length delivery on the backfoot but misjudged the ball angling back in and it went back to crash onto the stumps, just to be dismissed in the second delivery that followed Kohli’s departure, leaving RCB at a precarious 78/5.
