Irani Cup 2024: Shardul Thakur Batted with Fever, Rushed to Lucknow Hospital After 73-run Stand with Sarfaraz Khan | Report
Shardul Thakur had a mild fever on the opening day of the game as well but it aggravated after spending a couple of hours in the middle with Sarfaraz.

All-rounder Shardul Thakur was rushed to a Lucknow hospital after his gritty 73-run 9th-wicket stand with Sarfaraz Khan for Mumbai in the ongoing Irani Cup fixture against the Rest of India. The all-rounder batted with fever and played a vital 36-run knock before Saransh Jain knocked him over at the stroke of stumps. But soon after returning to the dressing room, Thakur needed medical attention as he batted with a fever of 102.

According to The Indian Express, Thakur had a mild fever on the opening day of the game, but it aggravated after spending a couple of hours in the middle with Sarfaraz. After his innings, he was taken to a nearby hospital and was kept under observation. A call on his further participation in the game will be taken on Thursday.

“He was not feeling well for the entire day and was running on high fever, which was the main reason he came out to bat late. He was feeling weak and he slept in the dressing room after taking medicine. But he wanted to bat despite feeling low. We have got his blood test done for malaria and dengue. We are waiting for the results. Till then, he will spend the night in hospital,” a was quoted as saying in the report.

The Irani Cup marks Thakur’s comeback from a foot injury for which he had undergone surgery in London earlier in June. He picked up the injury during the Ranji Trophy last season, but played through the pain and played a vital role in the final. Later, the injury resurfaced during India’s tour of South Africa.

Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan’s double hundred not only put the Rest of India under immediate pressure in the ongoing Irani Cup but will also keep the seasoned KL Rahul on his toes when the Indian team embarks on the Test tour of Australia next month.

Sarfaraz (221 batting, 276 balls) became the first-ever cricketer to score an Irani Cup double hundred for Mumbai, with the 42-time champions reaching 536 for 9 at the end of the second day.
