MS Dhoni First Wicketkeeper to Hit Triple Century of Dismissals in T20 History
Chennai Super Kings superstar MS Dhoni has become the first wicketkeeper to hit triple century of dismissals in T20 history.

While the cricket world continues to drool over MS Dhoni’s blistering innings in Vizag during an IPL 2024 match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals, the legendary captain quietly set a new benchmark for wicketkeepers in T20s.

When Dhoni took the catch of DC opener Prithvi Shaw off Ravindra Jadeja, he became the first wicketkeeper in T20 history to touch the reach the milestone of 300 dismissals.

The catch was Dhoni’s 213th of T20 career and he has 87 stumpings to his name.

The second on the list of most T20 dismissals is Dinesh Karthik who has 207 catches and 69 stumpings for a total of 276 while Kamran Akmal completes the top-three with 274 dismissals (172 catches, 102 stumpings).

Dhoni later delighted the crowd gathered at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam by peppering the boundary en route to an unbeaten 37 off 16 after walking in to bat at no.8. CSK though failed to chase down the target of 192 suffering their first defeat of the season.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad felt that not getting an ideal start in the Powerplay the main reason behind their unsuccessful chase. DC had gotten rid of both CSK openers – Rachin Ravindra and Gaikwad – cheaply.

“We couldn’t get going in the first three overs and that was the difference. At the halfway stage it was getable. There was extra seam movement and we couldn’t capitalize and we were always behind. We didn’t get the big over to reduce the run rate,” Gaikwad said at the post-match presentation.

CSK started IPL 2024 with back-to-back wins – they beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans – to claim the top spot in the standings. However, the defeat has also impacted their net run-rate which has resulted in them dropping to the second spot.

Kolkata Knight Riders are currently top of the table with four points from two matches. Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans complete the top-four.
