Players Not Featuring in IPL Playoffs to be Sent to New York Early for T20 World Cup: Report
The BCCI might send the players, whose teams don't qualify for the IPL play-offs, earlier to New York, while those who play the knock-out stages will join them after the tournament gets over.

The forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be the ultimate fundament for the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee to pick the 1-man squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA. On the other hand, the workload management of the players in the fray to be selected would also be an important aspect. However, it has been learned that the BCCI won’t be giving any instruction to the players to manage their load.

As reported by the Press Trust of India, no Indian players are supposed to be given any instructions about workload management during IPL as it is also not fair with the franchises, who are paying top dollar to star Indian players.

The report further stated that the BCCI might send the players, whose teams don’t qualify for the IPL play-offs, earlier to New York, while those who play the knock-out stages will join them after the tournament gets over.

“They are being paid highly and they can’t pick and choose games for franchises. But yes, for all those centrally contracted and targeted players (next lot), the franchise’s support staff will have to regularly provide fitness updates to the NCA Sports Science head Nitin Patel,” an official was quoted as saying by the agency.

The ICC T20 World Cup in the West begins June 1 and India will be playing their opening game on June 5 in New York.

Ranji Trophy mandatory for IPL

The new agency also reported that the BCCI is likely to make a minimum number of Ranji Trophy games mandatory for players to be eligible to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The move would be made after the reluctance shown by Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan towards first-class cricket and focus only on the IPL.

Kishan didn’t show up in any of Jharkhand’s 6 matches in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. How he skipped the tournament since returning from the South Africa tour citing ‘travel fatigue’ hasn’t gone down well among the board officials.

The BCCI is now looking to implement a strict policy so that the players don’t make ‘playing IPL to IPL’ a habit.
