The alleged Gary Kirsten private comments in the Pakistan locker room questioning the team’s unity has opened Pandora’s box after the statement got leaked and gave fodder for former Pak players and fans to come down hard on Babar Azam and Co., who were knocked out of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Pakistan failed to make it out of the group stages with losses to the USA and India. Kirsten was appointed Pakistan’s head coach in April this year and Afridi, after being named captain for the tournament, opted to step down, with the reins going back to Azam. In the tournament, Afridi picked five wickets at an average of 21.00 and an economy of 6.56.

Players are facing backlash for their team’s performance and in one such ugly incident, fast bowler Haris Rauf lost his cool when a fan allegedly abused him. Rauf confronted the fan and the video went viral for all the wrong reasons. Rauf had to put out a statement explaining his actions while his teammates also came out in support.
Afridi also tweeted on the issue and his choice of words was very interesting. Condemning the action of the fan, Afridi said the team stands united with Rauf. This comes on the backdrop of Kirsten’s comment about the lack of unity within the team.

While Rauf received support from some corners, he was targeted by some, calling out his assumption that the fan who abused him was an Indian. In the video, the fan clarifies that he in fact from Pakistan. Mohammed Rizwan, Rauf’s teammate, took to X saying it does not matter whether the fan was Indian or Pakistani, what matters is What truly matters is that this individual lacked values and manners.

This issue has blown up so much so that The PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has threatened legal actions against those who hurled abuses at Rauf.
