Short-handed Australia Field Chief Selector, George Bailey and Coaching Staff in First Warm-up Game vs Namibia
The Australian team who were short on players had to use the coaching staff and chief selector as substitutes during their warm-up game against Namibia.

The Australian side seems to be getting their groove on as they prepare themselves for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 which the West Indies and the United States of America are hosting. The side managed to get a crushing victory in their first warm-up game against Namibia by 7 wickets and 10 overs to spare.

Things got really interesting during the first innings of the game where the Aussies who were bowling managed to field in substitutes that weren’t part of the squad. In fact, as many as four of the fielders that were deployed were part of the support staff. This included the chief selector, George Bailey who is also a former Australian skipper.

Mitchell Marsh’s side were short on players as the remaining squad members are yet to arrive. These include the likes of Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green being granted a break following their respective stints at the recently concluded Indian Premier League.

Along with Bailey, fielding coach Andre Borovec, batting coach, Brad Hodge and head coach Andrew McDonald were all on the field during the warm-up match.

Borovec and Bailey had taken a catch each while McDonald had put in the dive to stop a boundary which is commendable considering their age.

Despite the lack of a full starting 11, the side managed to dominate Namibia with Josh Hazlewood starting off the proceedings with two consecutive maidens while Adam Zampa took three wickets to restrict the Namibians to just 119. Tim David who is also an all-rounder took one wicket but conceded at over 9 runs per over.

As far as the batting is concerned, David Warner struck a quick 54 off 21 balls while Tim David had a quick cameo of 23 in 16 as the Australians got the win in their first warm-up game.
