Rohit Sharma finished his T20I career on a perfect note with, captaining India to their second-ever world cup win in Barbados last month. Rohit thus completed the unique double of winning the tournament both as captain and as a player.
On Thursday, the heroes of the 2024 T20 World Cup title winning campaign were given a grand welcome in New Delhi where they landed following a 16-hour journey from Barbados and then in Mumbai where a sea of fans descended on the roads during the open bus victory parade.

During the ceremony, Rohit thanked fans for their patience as it took Indian team to win nearly 11 years to win their first ICC title since the 2023 Champions Trophy.
“On behalf of my team and BCCI, I would like to thank the fans. For the last 11 years, they have wanted the trophy back in India,” Rohit said.
“As much desperation we had to win the trophy, the fans had it a bit more. Every World Cup win is special. So I’d like to leave the 2007 where it is. We showed the world how to win the T20 World Cup. And 2011 we won the ODI World Cup in Wankhede. 2013 Champions Trophy in England, again that was special!,” he added.
Rohit came agonisingly close to winning a world title twice inside five months last year. India qualified for the World Test Championship final and then ODI World Cup final in 2023 but lost to Australia on both the occasions.
However, a determined Rohit overcame the twin heartbreaks and finally lifted his first ICC title as India captain on June 29 as oversaw a thrilling win over South Africa in the final.
