The Nepali supporters were elated as the team had snared 4 wickets of Bangladesh in 6 overs. Meanwhile, a delighted fan jumped into the pool waving the Nepal national flag.

The madness of the Nepal cricket fans was one of the major takeaways from the T20 World Cup 2024. Though Rohit Paudel’s team got knocked out, the fans never left their heroes alone. They gathered in large numbers to support their team, celebrated its success and even shed tears on its failures. Not winning a single game in the tournament was a bitter pill to swallow but Paudel and his boys could do it only with the unending support and the love they received throughout their journey.

Speaking of the madness, a fan got carried away during Nepal’s last League Stage game against Bangladesh in Kingstown and ended up jumping in the swimming pool. The fan was happy for captain Paudel who dismissed Towhid Hridoy in the final over of the Powerplay.

The Bangla batter playing the sweep shot but was tricked by the extra bounce in Paudel’s delivery. The ball went up in the air and Sandeep Lamichhane took a superb catch to send Hridoy back into the hut.

But the crazy celebrations were shortlived as Nepal lost the game at Arnos Vale Stadium. After bundling out Bangladesh for 106, Paudel & Co faltered in the second half. A combined seven-wicket haul from Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mustafizur Rahman ensured that Nepal didn’t get past 85 runs.

Nepal were on course at 78 for 5 at one stage before losing their last five wickets for seven runs as a determined Bangladesh team used all its reservoir of experience after a disappointing batting show.

Bangladesh should have won the match when Nepal were reduced to 26 for 5 after seven overs courtesy of the right-arm outswing specialist Tanzim but Kushal Malla (27) and world record holder Dipendra Singh Airee (25) added 52 runs to raise visions of a first big win for the country.

Nepal will now return home without a single victory at the T20 World Cup. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will be travelling to the Caribbean for the Super Eight stage of the tournament.
