Diwali To Christmas, Know Upcoming School Holidays Across India
The first holiday in October was on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

The educational institutions in states like Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar will remain shut due to various holidays from October to December. Festivals like Diwali (October 31, Thursday) and Vijay Dashami (October 12, Saturday) will be celebrated in October. In November, there will be holidays due to the Govardhan Puja (November 2, Saturday) and Bhai Dooj (November 3, Sunday). Christmas will be celebrated on December 25, Sunday. The first holiday in October was on October 2 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’s birth anniversary). On this day, there was a national holiday across the country and educational institutes remained closed almost everywhere. A holiday was also declared in government offices.

In addition to these dates, the other holidays are:

1. Dhanteras- October 29 (Tuesday)

2. Narak Chaturdashi or Choti Diwali – October 30 (Wednesday)

3. Badi Diwali- October 31 (Thursday)

4. Guru Nanak Jayanti – November 15 (Friday)

5. Guru Tegh Bahadur Jayanti – November 24 (Sunday)

Besides, there will also be four Sundays in this month. In this way, a total leave of nine days will be available to the students.

Durga Puja Festival (October 9-13)

Durga Puja is a special puja (offering) festival that marks the victory of the goddess Durga over the demon king Mahishasura. This festival will be celebrated from October 9 to 13. The festival of Navratri will be celebrated with great enthusiasm in many parts of the country including West Bengal and Bihar. There is also a holiday at many places on the last day of Navratri (October 12). Durga Puja is a ten-day festival of which the last five are of the most importance.

Chhath Puja 2024

Chhath Puja is also a holiday for the school students. It will be celebrated on Thursday, November 7, 2024. Chhath Puja is a festival dedicated to Surya, the Sun God, and his wife Usha, also known as Chhathi Maiya. On this day, devotees thank Lord Surya, the god of energy and life force, for sustaining their life on Earth.

The list of these holidays serves as a great help for the students, enabling them to efficiently plan their activities during the school closure.
