The Directorate of Higher Secondary Education (DHSE) Kerala has initiated the process for students who wish to improve their performance in their Class 12 exams. The Kerala Board Higher Secondary SAY (Save A Year)/Improvement Exam 2024 is scheduled to take place from June 12 to June 20.
This examination is conducted for students who have not cleared one or more subjects in their previous attempts. It provides an opportunity for students to enhance their scores in specific subjects. By clearing this exam, students can prevent the loss of an entire academic year. The deadline to apply for the improvement exam is May 15.
Kerala Plus 2 SAY Exam 2024: Who can apply?
Those who participated in the Kerala class 12th board exams but did not qualify for higher studies are eligible for the exam can register for all subjects in which they failed to achieve a D+ grade or above.
Regular candidates who appeared for the class 12th exams in March and received a D+ grade or higher in all subjects are eligible to participate in the improvement examination to enhance the grade of any one subject only. Private Compartmental Candidates are not eligible for the Improvement Examination.
Kerala Plus 2 SAY Exam 2024: Application Fees
The exam fee for the SAY (Save a Year) Exam is Rs. 150 per subject, whereas the fee for the Improvement Examination is Rs. 500 per subject. The last date for submission of application with a fine of Rs 600 is May 17.

The exam will be conducted in forenoon (FN) and afternoon (AN) sessions. The detailed schedule is available, with exams spread across various subjects including arts, science, and commerce.

In the current academic year, a total of 4,41,120 students sat for Kerala plus two exams, comprising 2,17,384 girls and 2,23,736 boys. Out of these, 2,94,888 students successfully passed the Kerala HS second-year exams. However, there was a decline in the overall pass percentage which dropped from 82.95 per cent in 2023 to 78.69 per cent in 2024.
