Expectations were quite high from Anees Bazmee’s upcoming directorial venture with Shahid Kapoor. The film was all set to go on floors in August this year and wrap up by December in a start-to-finish schedule. But then reports started doing the rounds that the film has been shelved after Kapoor walked out due to creative differences with the filmmaker. Touted to be a comic caper, the film would see Shahid playing a double role with Rashmika Mandanna playing the female lead opposite him.
Reacting to the reports of Kapoor’s exit from the project, the Welcome (2007) and Singh Is Kinng (2008) maker exclusively confirms to News18 Showsha that the film has indeed been shelved for the time being. While he remains tight-lipped about the reasons of his alleged fallout with Kapoor, the director states, “I’m not doing the film with Shahid Kapoor.”
But he isn’t willing to let go of his script which according to him is a special one. He intends on reviving the project in the near future as he tells us, “I will restart working on the same script after I wrap up the shoot of my next film because it’s a great script according to me. I will do it with some other hero.”
Last year, Bazmee had confirmed a sequel to No Entry (2005) and that it would feature the same star cast as its prequel – Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor and Fardeen Khan. However, the No Entry sequel isn’t the next film he’s busy working on. Currently, he’s in the process of prepping for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, the sequel to Kartik Aaryan starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022) that created a rage at the box office. Talking about it, Bazmee says, “Right now, I don’t want to worry about the film I was supposed to do (with Shahid). My concentration is on Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. I will start shooting for the film early next year.”
Speaking to us earlier, Bazmee seemingly confirmed the sequel to Rowdy Rathore which will reported be produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and star Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani as opposed to Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha, who headlined the prequel in 2012. While there’s no confirmation on the new cast, Bazmee had shared with us that the film is still at a very nascent stage. “Talks are going on. When it’s the right time to announce, we will,” he had said.
