New Delhi: Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka has questioned the wisdom of his front-line rival Didier Drogba over the now infamous coin-throwing incident.
For his actions against Burnley in the Carling Cup nine days ago, when he launched a coin towards the away supporters at Stamford Bridge, Drogba received a violent conduct charge and a three-match ban from the FA.
In the prolonged absence of Drogba, Nicolas Anelka will continue to lead the Chelsea line and he is currently doing so with a great deal of efficiency.
Since Drogba's first spell on the sidelines, through injury, Anelka has seized the initiative offered to him by Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari and catapulted himself to the top of the Premier League scoring charts.
For another three matches at least, the French international remains secure in his place at the head of a formidable attacking unit.
Anelka, however, believes that Drogba has brought his extended period out of the side upon himself through his actions.
Although the former PSG man thinks that the punishment levelled against his team-mate is disproportionate, he feels that the former African footballer of the year should have handled the situation better.
After playing in the vitriolic atmosphere of an Istanbul derby for Fenerbahçe against Galatasaray, Anelka suggestes that he is more capable of keeping his reactions in check than his 30-year-old team-mate.
He told the press: "Didier returned a coin which supporters had thrown at him. It is not something serious. It is a gesture among others.
"When I was playing in Turkey (for Fenerbahce), during derbies, I got hit by things on the head and I never answered. But it is sometimes hard to keep your nerve."
