Spanish champions Real Madrid get their title defence underway on Monday when they take on RCD Mallorca in their La Liga opener at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix.
There is incredible hype surrounding the Madrid Giants for more reasons than one following the acquisition of long-term target Kylian Mbappe, who is set to make his La Liga debut for the club.
Mbappe, who completed his dream move to the club of his wishes, netted on his first Madrid appearance as he led the team to a UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta with a goal in a 2-0 triumph.
When quizzed about the French skipper’s acclimatization to the Spanish capital city club, head coach Carlo Ancelotti hailed the striker’s immense talent and cited the focus of the 25-year-old star.
“Mbappe is an extraordinary talent, we have to help him adapt as quickly as possible,” Ancelotti said.
“He has started well in the dressing room, very focussed, with humility,” the Italian added.
When asked if he set a particular target for the French talisman to meet in terms of goals in his debut season, Ancelotti said he wouldn’t put a limit on the number of goals a player nets in a season, but rather, focus on his contributions to the unit’s goals.
“I will never tell a player how many goals he has to score, what I ask of them is to give everything they have for the team, nothing more,” the 65-year-old added.
“Everybody has their qualities, whether they are technical, tactical or motivational, and have to harness them for the team,” he continued.
Ancelotti also touched upon the strenuous game calendar and opined the team considered designing tailor-made schedules for internationals who get called up for country duties.
“The players need to rest, they need holidays, we’re thinking about giving individual holidays to some players,” added Ancelotti.
“A player might not play for a week and go to rest with their family, above all with the internationals, who have very little rest, we’re looking at it with the medical and fitness teams,” the Real Madrid boss clarified.
