London: Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has pulled out of England's squad ahead of Wednesday's international friendly against Scotland because of an eye infection.
The English Football Association says Carrick has returned to United and won't be adding to his 29 caps for England.
The 32-year-old Carrick has recently re-established himself as a regular starter for his country in central midfield after a couple of consistent seasons at United.
He could face a race to be fit for United's first Premier League game of the season at Swansea on Saturday.
