David Moyes is on the verge of getting sacked as Manchester United manager after their 2-0 loss to Everton on Sunday, according to reports in the British media.
Moyes, who was hand-picked by the club's previous manager Sir Alex Ferguson 11 months ago, had a harrowing time at the Old Trafford as the 20-time Premier League champions slumped to seventh position in the current league standings, putting an end to their hopes of qualifying for the next year's Champions League - United's worst performance for nearly a quarter of a century.
While a report in the express.co.uk said the club's American owners, The Glazer family, have now "lost faith in the 50-year-old", The Telegraph said the Scot's reign "could end before Saturday's Old Trafford encounter with Norwich City".
"It is understood there has been a sea change in mood among the Old Trafford hierarchy and United's American owners, the Glazer family, have now lost faith that Moyes is the man to take the club forward," the Express report said.
"With no real discernible signs of improvement during the second half of the season, the Glazers are understood to have had second thoughts about entrusting him with a transfer war chest of around 200m pounds this summer to re-build United."
"Whether Moyes - who signed a six-year contract worth around 6 million pound last May - is fired now or at the end of the season is unclear at the moment but the current mood at Old Trafford indicates he is a dead man walking," the report added.
The Manchester United are languishing in seventh position, six points behind the sixth-place Tottenham, and may not even qualify for the Europa League. The loss at Goodison Park on Sunday is supposed to be the last nail in the coffin.
Moyes' previous club, Everton, achieved the double over United for the first time since the 1969-70 season on Sunday.
The Red Devils are set to finish in their lowest position since the Premier League was launched in 1992 with lowest points tally, lowest number of goals scored and worst home record.
