Paris: France's Euro 2012 hopes have been dealt a blow with the news that forward Loic Remy has been ruled out of the tournament through injury.
The Marseille striker had been a major doubt for Poland and Ukraine right from the moment he suffered a thigh strain in his club's Ligue 1 clash with Auxerre on May 13.
Laurent Blanc was determined to give Remy as long as possible to prove his fitness and included the player in his provisional squad, but the French Football Federation (FFF) announced on Friday that Remy had lost his battle to be fit for the Euros.
"Despite continuous care, scans have shown that the injury has not healed sufficiently," a statement on the organisation's official website read.
"There is too short a time between now and Euro 2012 to expect the player to return to his competitive level, so Laurent Blanc and the medical staff have decided not to retain him for the finals."
Remy, who was a regular during France's qualification campaign, hit 12 goals in 29 appearances for Marseille in Ligue 1 last season.
