After abandoning hunt for Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani, Manchester City's new boss Manuel Pellegrini has set his eyes on Brazilian striker Fred and Benfica's Oscar Cardozo. With Carlos Tevez off to Juventus, City are looking at Fred and Cardozo as possible replacement for the temperamental Argentine.

Fred, 29, is enjoying a superb run at the Confederations Cup and has witnessed a career resurgence under Luiz Felipe Scolari. Along with Cardozo, City are viewing Montenegro forward Stevan Jovetic and Stephan El Shaarawy, of AC Milan as strikers for the club in the upcoming season.

According to the dailymail, Pellegrini was not very interested in signing Cavani with a transfer fee of £54million valued by his current side Napoli.

City are also trying to strengthen their back four aiming to rope in Pepe from Real Madrid for £20m deal to form a new partnership with Vincent Kompany.
