Milan: Inter coach Claudio Ranieri was pleased with his side's home victory over Chievo in Serie A on Sunday afternoon and refused to relinquish hopes of winning the title.
Thiago Motta's header on 34 minutes proved to be the difference between the two teams at San Siro, as the Nerazzurri won 1-0 to record their first league win at home this season.
The 29-year-old's goal was also Inter's first at San Siro in Serie A in 2011-12, and Ranieri was pleased to have kick-started their home campaign.
"It was important to get rid of the 'San Siro taboo', although it seems strange to say it, but we hadn't won here or scored here," the Italian is quoted as saying by Inter’s official website.
"The team was solid and determined. They really wanted this victory with all they had.
"We knew it wouldn't be an easy game but it went well, against a team that has a good collective play and runs a lot. I'm satisfied.
"Teams like Chievo make all the big teams suffer a bit, but we locked up the three points at home. Now our thoughts are on Atalanta [away on Wednesday] another difficult team to face."
The win over the Veronese visitors has placed Inter in 16th position in the league standings with seven points from as many matches, eight behind leaders Udinese.
Ranieri, though, refused to give up on hopes of winning the Scudetto this campaign.
"Coaching Inter, of course you have to believe in it," the 60-year-old added.
"Let's not forget that up to December the team are the world champions [having won the Club World Cup last year], and so of course we must stay up there."
