The co-owner of the team, Bollywood heartthrob John Abraham is known to be a big fan of the beautiful game and is now at the helm of a football club after investing in the Hockey India League çlub Delhi Waveriders.
I-League club Shillong Lajong are the joint owners of the NorthEast United that will be based out from Guwahati with the Indian Gandhi Athletics Stadium as its home ground.
The club will be managed by veteran New Zealand international Ricki Herbert with Joan Capdevila, the member of Spain's champion teams from Euro 2008 and FIFA World Cup 2010, as its marquee player.
