Real Madrid made their second acquisition of the winter transfer window.

New Delhi: Real Madrid have made their second acquisition of the winter transfer window by securing Portsmouth midfielder Lassana Diarra's signature.

Los Blancos announced via their official website on Sunday evening that they have essentially sealed the 23-year-old's arrival already, although the actual mechanics of the transfer won't be completed until Monday.

The well-traveled Frenchman leaves Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee, albeit one thought to be in the region just over €20 million.

Having previously served his time with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Le Mans, Diarra has top-level experience, but seems to have a hard time settling into first team roles.

For cash-strapped Portsmouth such a sale is welcome, especially given that he cost the Fratton Park outfit significantly less than half of today's reported fee. upon his arrival from Arsenal in January this year.

Diarra is expected to inherit a defensive midfield place at the Bernabeu, given the long-term injuries to his namesake Mamadou Diarra (no relation) and Spanish international Ruben de la Red.
