New Delhi: Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has said that he doesn't think Liverpool will be taking United's Premier League title this season.
Bryan Robson knows all about Liverpool. When he was captaining Manchester United in the '80s the men from Anfield were dominating English football, winning trophy after trophy as United had to make do with a couple of FA Cup wins.
Things are very different now as it is the Merseyside club that is desperate to recapture a league title it last won in 1990. However, Robson doesn't think they'll be doing it this season.
"I'm not overly concerned about Liverpool," the former England captain said.
"The major threat will be Chelsea.
"I feel United will catch up Liverpool and overtake them, but it is Chelsea who look very strong. They proved last year what a good side they are in finishing second in the league and getting to the Champions League final."
Robson was a talismanic presence in the United side of his era, much like Steven Gerrard is for the current Liverpool team, and Robson believes that the Merseysiders depend on Gerrard far too much.
"They rely too heavily on him," said Robson.
"If he gets injured or has a dip in form, so will their performances. You cannot dismiss them because they have got off to a decent start. They got a great win at Chelsea, which they deserved, and came back strong against us. But you have to say they have been fortunate as well, scoring a lot of late goals, and you can't keep doing that."
And Robson remains convinced that it will be the Red Devils who will lift the Premier League crown again in May.
"United may be adrift at the moment, but to play Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal away from home so early in the season was hardly helpful," he said.
"If they win their game in hand they will be five points off the top and all the others will have to play each other so they will drop points.
"They can narrow the gap in the league if they beat Fulham in their game in hand, which will put them in a strong position going into the New Year, and we know United always get stronger in the second half of the season."
