Margao: Akram Moghrabi scored a hatrick as Churchill Brothers hammered ONGC 5-0 to score their first win in the second round of the I-League, played at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, here Thursday.
Churchill Brothers scored through Akram Moghrabi (17th, 30th and injury time of the first half), Roberto Silva(30th) and Bilal Najjarine(43th).
ONGC who gave a good performance against Pune FC were forced on the back foot by the marauding Goan side which was at its best and could have won with a bigger margin had the players been on target in the second session.
The only time the visitors came close to scoring was in the second half through substitute Tarif Ahammad.
Churchill Brothers who lost their opening match against Dempo made a change bringing in Akram Moghrabi in place of Henri and the striker did not disappoint his coach as he scored a hatrick with clinical finish.
Churchill Brothers went on the offensive from the start and were all over the rival goal with their midfield and upfront combining like a well oiled machine.
Steven Dias was in his element on the right flank as he combined well with Roberto Silva. Churchill took the lead in the 17th minute through Akram Moghrabi who found the net with a low header off a cross from Steven Dias.
Steven again played the role of a provider as he lobbed the ball into the box from the right where Akram header was blocked by rival keeper Prosenjit Ghosh and off the rebound Roberto Silva blasted in.
Akram Moghrabi then made it 3-0 with a clinical header that found the net off a flag kick taken by Steven Dias from the net.
The Goan team continued to torment the rival half and defender Bilal Najjarine who moved up on the right flank scored with a low drive off Roberto Silva pass which came to him via Lenny Rodrigues.
Moghrabi scored his hatrick in the stoppage time of the first half to finish the contest in their favour with an emphatic win.
