Sunil Chhetri is all praise for his East Bengal teammate Renedy Singh.

New Delhi: East Bengal ended their nine match jinx against Mohun Bagan on Sunday in style and amongst the many who shone was an experienced left winger. Sunil Chhetri is all praise for his fellow team-mate Renedy Singh whom he rightly labelled as the ‘most underrated player in the country’.

Renedy Singh had two assists to his name with an accurate corner-kick and a pinpoint delivery from another dead ball situation. Sunil Chhetri, who scored a goal himself, hailed his senior team-mate.

“I feel Renedy Singh is best midfielder in the country and the most underrated. I think apart from Nabi and Mehtab, Renedy was absolutely brilliant in the match,” said Sunil.

The Indian international was surprised that the left winger wasn’t mentioned by most media.

“What surprised me was that there was no mention of Renedy Singh anywhere. Not just for Sunday’s match but for all his work in the last 12-to-13 years. So many players have scored so many goals which have been created by him.”

Sunil has been in good touch scoring four in the last three outings after his Coventry City trials.

“I was playing good earlier as well but just that when you get the goals then it does a word of good to your confidence,” said the AFC Challenge Cup hero.

Subhash Bhowmick has been hogging all the headlines for his work with East Bengal and the turn of fortunes in the last three outings.

“Tactically and man management wise, Subhash Bhowmick is too good,” added Sunil.

He also reserved some words for arch rivals Mohun Bagan and said that they are still in the title hunt.

“No team is at the same level always. They have been best during their 10 match unbeaten run. There are six matches and have Sporting and Churchill fighting for title. They are very much in it,” concluded Sunil.
