London: Rio Ferdinand has ruled himself out of the running for the vacant England captaincy. John Terry was removed as captain amid allegations of using racial abuse towards Ferdinand's brother Anton.

The former England skipper, Ferdinand announced via his Twitter feed: "I don't want to be England captain after the last episode, just want to concentrate on playin for utd & if I make the squad then as ever I'll be delighted."

Ferdinand was made England captain in 2010 after Terry was stripped of the captaincy as reports of an affair with Wayne Bridge's former girlfriend surfaced.

The Manchester United man only led the side out four times, however, due to injury problems throughout his tenure.

Steven Gerrard, Scott Parker and Frank Lampard are the bookies' favorites to take over as England skipper, with an announcement expected before England's friendly with Holland at the end of February.
